Why Use A Freelancer

A quick article on why hiring a freelancer could be better than using an online website builder

Website building in today’s day and age is vital to be fully embraced by the market. This doesn’t exclude the factor that this is quite a difficult task when you have no idea where to begin! It is very common for many to outsource and find some technical wizards with a creative vision that matches yours. To narrow down the options, there are essentially two paths to take when faced with this particular scenario: finding a freelance web developer or using an online website builder. Both have benefits and this is what I will highlight for you in this article!

Hiring a Freelancer

Taking the freelance route holds many great benefits - one being that you get the dedication and time your business deserves! This is simply because you are hiring a singular individual to work with you, rather than investing in a large scale company. Due to this, freelancers are able to feed into your visions and know-how to create a website using specialist tools. Freelancers also bring a great deal of passion and dedication to projects they are invested in, especially as their work is not always guaranteed. Therefore when the work is there, they put their whole heart and soul into it! Freelancers are also a very personal touch to projects, as they are working directly alongside you with all of your best interests at heart. This can be a wonderful aspect as you know that this person is working on your visions and they will be working on fulfilling those, down to a tee!

Taking the web builder route

Web builders can be a great route to take, especially with the tools available. It is cheaper than hiring a freelancer, although it may not be better, why though? Although the tools to make the website are great, they cannot express what your vision for the website should be. Without coding experience it can be extremely difficult, as well as time consuming, to create the website you have in your mind. The most common question I hear is, "the website I made looks amazing. Why is it not showing up on search engines?". This is what Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is all about. There are many reasons why this may happen, here are a few:

  • Speed! Without correct image optimisation amongst other things, the website will run slowly;
  • Code! Search engines like clean code, they also like it when the code is clean and unique;
  • Meta Tags! These are what tells the search engines to display after a user makes a search. If these are not there or are incorrectly formatted, the search engines won't favour the website.
In a nutshell, SEO is important and involves many factors. Web builders don't always take these many factors into consideration, which result in your website not appearing in search results.

There may also be extra charges on top of the initial price, which quite often appear once you’ve already committed to a monthly plan - especially if you are wanting to dabble with the work created. However, this is not always the case which means it is unbelievably important to do research on each web builder to make sure that their services can offer you exactly what you need.

To Summarise

At the end of the day, it is all circulated around your wants and how you wish to showcase yourself and your business. It is a case of researching all of your options and going with the one that best represents your needs and expectations. There are pros and cons to both routes discussed here, but that is the same with anything. Both freelancers and web builders are brilliant and beneficial options for individuals wanting to expand their business, but it all comes down to what you want.
